Springburn Winter Garden Trust
community Community & Environment
Description
Springburn Winter Gardens Trust is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, Scottish Charity Number SCO44954 The Trust's goal is to repurpose the A-listed gem as a major community resource and has already raised large sums to keep it standing The Winter Gardens was built in Springburn Park by Glasgow Corporation in 1899-1900, as a condition of accepting a £12,000 donation from local locomotive magnate Sir Hugh Reid, of the Hyde Park Locomotive Works, which had financed the construction of the (now recently demolished) Springburn Public Halls. Much loved by generations of Springburn residents for its displays of exotic plants, concerts and exhibitions the structure has lain derelict since the 1980s. Please support Springburn Winter Gardens Trust in its aims to restore this beautiful A listed gem in its wonderful setting for future generations.
